What They Left Behind:  Exploring Boston’s Past Through the Archaeological Record

People have been living in the place we now call Boston for thousands of years…. and they’ve been losing things ever since that first person arrived around 12,000 years ago.  Come join us to hear City Archaeologist Ellen Berkland share stories about the material culture (artifacts, stuff, etc.) found during recent excavations in Boston- you might be surprised about what mundane objects can tell future generations about how you lived your life.

Ellen Berkland has been the City’s Archaeologist for the past twelve years, and is also the live-in caretaker for Boston’s oldest house (the 1661 Blake House in Dorchester).

When In Boston:  A Time Line & Almanac

Jim Vrabel has written this fascinating book, which is the only one-volume chronological history of Boston - a book that contains numerous facts and events you might never have been aware of in Boston’s long and illustrious history since 1634.  The author will be sharing highlights of his book this evening, and will also have copies available for sale.

This is Mr. Vrabel’s second book. He is the co-author of a book titled “John Paul II: A Personal Portrait of the Pope and the Man”, published in 2001.
