The Goals and Mission
of
Aberdeen - Brighton
Residents Association
We want to foster neighborly relations and a
community spirit among residents, so our neighborhood does not feel
like a transient, indifferent, anonymous city -- but rather like a
friendly town where people know and care about one another and the
surrounding environment.
Our association espouses inclusiveness and freedom
of expression for all. We welcome honest and open discussion, and we
respect differences in opinions. We are guided by our belief that in
order to maintain control over our lives as Boston residents, we must
be involved in civic life and actively participate in the public
process.
ABRA's primary mission is to spotlight and
advocate for issues related to the quality of life for permanent
residents. Examples include:
- Beautification and pedestrian improvements for
Commonwealth Avenue, Cleveland Circle, and all other public
spaces;
- Historic landscape restoration of the parkland
around the Chestnut Hill Reservoir, and reopening it for public
use and enjoyment;
- Preservation and maintenance of Aberdeen's
architectural integrity and beauty, including protection of green
space in front yards;
- Working to ensure the quiet enjoyment of our
homes at all times, but especially at night;
- Preventing excessive development and density
that leads to frustrating parking and traffic problems;
- Ensuring good city services and enforcement of
existing laws and ordinances pertaining to sanitation, zoning
& licensing, parking, etc.;
- Engaging with other community and civic
organizations in matters of common concern;
- Enhancing the overall image of
Allston-Brighton.
